
For students, estimating is an important skill. When solving simple computational or word problems, we want students to be able to determine the reasonableness of their answer. Without estimation skills, students aren’t able to determine if their answer seems reasonable.

While reading School Bus to the class, I had the students look briefly at the picture of the rows of school busses, and then I turned the book around and asked "How many buses do you think there are?" Ask your child what their guess was and ask them why they picked the number that they did.
