We have started a new unit in math dealing with time, temperature, and money.
We will learn to: -identify and describe coins -represent money amounts up to 20 cents -add and subtract money amounts to 10 cents -read an analog clock to the hour and half-hour -name the months of the year -read the date on a calendar -relate temperature to the experiences of the seasons (eg. skating in winter because it's cold enough for there to be ice) We read a story called Eight Gangling Arms where students watched as an octopus had an ever-increasing numbers of charms on each of its eight tentacles. We needed to stop and figure out how many charms there were all together each time. Next, I challenged the students to think about how they counted when we were reading the story and I asked them "How many feet in our class today?" |
