The rabbits in the bottom row show a "growing pattern". There is one more rabbit in each successive position. We will be exploring growing patterns and using them to help solve word problems.
At the beginning of the year, we looked at patterns that involved the repetition of attributes. For example, the rabbit pattern in the top row shows an "AB" pattern "orange, blue, orange, blue, ...". The second row shows the "ABB" pattern "big, little, little, big, little, little, ...".
We call this a "repeating pattern".
After march Break, we will begin a new unit in math.
The Learning Goals for this unit are:
-explore number patterns
-estimate and count large collections of objects (up to 50)
-use a calculator to skip count
-explore "doubles" (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, etc.)
-solve simple addition and subtraction problems
