As part of our ongoing development of learning skills and work habits, we will now focus on self-regulation. The children are learning that they can manage, or control their own behaviour.
Self-regulating their behaviour will lead to success by setting goals, persevering when things get tough, and knowing when to ask for help. Due to religious, dietary, and personal reasons, please do not send candy or baked treats to share with friends. Thank you for understanding.
The students in 1A are taking turns as "calendar helper". At the end of each day, we talk about special happenings and learning moments. As you can see below, September 8th was memorable because Mr. Flynn, our Drama and Dance teacher, read Duck on a Bike. September 9th was special because we got to take our red poetry folders home for the weekend, for the first time.
Some of my students have begun asking "when am I going to get homework?". Formal homework assignments sent home are not considered appropriate at this age.
Beginning sometime in October, your child will be bringing home a Take Home book each night from Monday to Thursday. Beginning this Friday, your child will bring home a poetry folder to share with you over the weekend. Reading together and playing number and math games for 10-20 minutes in the evening can also help support your child's learning. On this blog, I will keep you updated about our learning. Where possible, I have included links to youtube read-alouds of the books that we have read at school. *A downloadable copy of each month's calendar can be found under the "Links For Parents" page. |
